Hello everyone – and happy New Year. What challenges lie ahead, and how are we going to cope with them?
As I write this my garden – here in the South of England – is coated white. In the twenty years I have lived in
When I ask how are we going to cope I am of course looking at the bigger picture; but the immediate one is stark enough: today and tomorrow work is postponed as
transportation is now fallible and failing. Either I can’t get to my clients, or they have shut down and all gone home to prevent to being stuck overnight. If this persists long enough we will all be in a right pickle.
So what is the problem – ice and snow: put another way, frozen water! The very stuff of life itself is blocking us. And isn’t that a metaphor for the other problems of the year, and our life?
The solution is transformation: the energy that turns ice into water, and blockages into flow.
As coaches and consultants we all have blockages in our life: how are we going to create flow? Flow at three levels: physical flow, mental/intellectual flow, and finally spiritual flow? Some of us are blocked in all three areas, and we need to identify the root cause that would enable us to unleash the flow in one that unpacks the constriction in the other two.
Over and above ourselves, we need to be sensitive to the blockages that our clients are experiencing: how do we create flow for them? What are their blockages? If we think of organisations then the ‘physical’ might be a resource issue; the mental could be a really competitive idea for the market place; and a spiritual blockage may well prove to be about values and ethos.
Motivational Maps, as many of you know, has a special thing about the number 3 and its multiples, especially 3 times 3, or 9. I often like to say, 3 is a magic number and underpins the universe. So, if ice needs to be transformed to water to enable flow, then where is the 3 in that?
Well, sometimes it’s not enough to melt ice, we need the third manifestation of H2O: we need the white hot steam of innovation. The ground is boiling and up goes the steam – eventually to return as life-giving and flowing water through our land and landscape. To do this we need massive energy – and then we can work on the true transformation that makes a difference.
So my winter motivation to you all is – work on your energy over the next few months – get a plan. And remember, motivation is energy – know yourself to fully be yourself.
And all the best to all my readers – thank you.
